Ragosta Hat Trick, Carlton 41 Saves Lead Sentinels over Mount 4-3

Game Summary

In a rare mid-week Wednesday showdown Smithfield shocked the Mounties 4-3.  The Sentinels came out flying and got the first goal of the game as Ragosta knocked it by the goalie on a sweet pass from Goolgasion just 1:32 into the game.  The Mounties managed to get one by Carlton at the 11:30 mark of the period to tie the score at one.  However, the Sentinels were not done as Ragosta lit the lamp for his second with the helper coming from Goolgasion and Varin with 1:52 left in the period.  The first period ended with the Sentinels up 2-1.  The Mounties outshot the Sentinels 14-11.

The second period started with some up and down hockey and the Sentinels Ryan Falls (first of the season) from Varin and Simons lit the lamp 3:04 into the second to take a 3-1 lead.  Just over 3 minutes later at the 6:17 mark of the period Ragosta got his third from Goolgasion and Gaulin to put the Sentinels up 4-1.  That is the way the second period ended.  Mounties outshot Smithfield 9-8

Smithfield looked to have a comfortable lead but the Mounties came out flying and managed to a get a goal 3:29 into the period to make the score 4-2.  This is where Carlton began to shine the Mounties created many more opportunities but Carlton turned them all away.  After a timeout and with 2:33 left in the game Mount pulled the goalie. The Mounties were peppering the net and with 4 secs left a laser form left of the net lit the lamp and closed it to 4-3.  With 4 secs left the faceoff was taken and time expired and the Sentinels took the 4-3 victory and 2 big points in the standings.  Mount outshot the Sentinels 21-5 in the period and 44-24 for the game.

The story of this game was disciplined play with only 1 penalty on Smithfield and a great 41 save effort from Carlton.
